Endoscopic third ventriculostomy ETV is a surgical procedure in which, with the help of the endoscope, an opening is created in the third ventricle.
This allows the cerebrospinal fluid to drain into the brain tanks, bypassing the “obstruction” point. It is used as an alternative to the treatment of certain forms of obstructive hydrocephalus, such as Sylvius’ aqueduct stenosis (HSAS).
The Endoscopic third ventriculostomy ETV is performed under general anesthesia. Usually the patient stays in the hospital 24 to 48 hours for follow-up.
